  1. Commentators should know when to shut up...

Umpires should know when to speak out....

  2. I think Gilly has put it very well. A star from me too Ivy

  3. 1) Good Vocabulary, clear speech,  humorous, knowledgeable, a good voice.

    2) Unpartial, not racial, unbiased, good and clear judgement, keen sight, ....

should not be so arrogant that they do not want to check with 3 rd Umpire. A bit humble so they can undo a mistake . Humans make them.

Should be willing to learn, as Simon Tauffel commented.

  4. 1]Commentators-Heavy expressions. They should give big experssions with their voice. That is if a wicket falls & u r some where else in home,u can understand that something has happened[may be  a wcket, fours or sixes] becuase of the expressions by the comentattors & also a deep voice. And should not speak non-sense.

2]Umpires-No partiality & need good observation/concentrataion over the ball and that's all.

  5. 1. Commentators - Should be able to speak for hours without tiring.

    2. Umpires - Should be able to maintain Silence for hours without tiring.

  6. 1) Commentator: Knowledgeable, humourous, impartial, knows when to keep quiet and let the pictures do the talking (this for TV only!), is appreciative of audience and doesn't talk down to them.

    2) Umpire: Calm under pressure, knowledgeable of rules, able to use common sense, has respect of the players, can make decisions.

  7. 1. Commentators should have a good command of the language and a thorough knowledge of the game and have statistics on hand with a good memory. A little bit of humor and unbaised view is needed too. They should be able a conduct intelligent conversations with eachother, the players and all connected to the games and productive interviews.

    2. Umpires need to have lots of concentration powers, be unbaised and genuine in decisions. not hesitate to use the third umpire when in doubt and be able to amicably settle issues/disputes on the field.

Prejudices must be kept behind at home at all times by both commentators and umpires.

  8. 1)COMMENTATORS... good clear speech,be non-biased and non-jugemental...And i suppose knowing players names would be an added bonus....

2)Umpires....Be alert, concentrate, give clear jugements, have good knowlege of the rules and also i think they should smile every once in a while,i think we need a few more with personality--Like Mr Billy Bowden....

Hey Ivy congrats mate, you have been asking great questions lately....

    Star for you*

  9. Good Question

    1) Commentator- Charismatic, bubbly, witty, booksmart not only in cricket, BUT about life too. Needs to know what to talk about when nothing is happening on the field. Obviously needs to know a lot about cricket, and needs to be friendly to other commentators.

    2) Umpires- Concentration umpires are standing on a cricket field for upto 2 hours at a time, they need to watch every ball with huge concentration. Knowledge of the rules, umpires need to know EVERY rule in the book. And last of all umpires need to have a good connection with the players, because if the players respect the umpire than matches will be easier

  10. 1.. sence of humor, knowing the players names, knowing the rules(not having to refer to the rule book all the time)....

    2..Dont have a favorite team,

Dont give a batter out just because the heat has been put on ya(too many appeals from players makes them give in half the time)

and yeah smile once in a while..
