Don't give me something like: Sean Sherk weighs 155 and Anderson Silva weighs 185. Silva walks at 215 and no telling what Sherk does.

  1. some of the crazier ones i have heard is

    Sherk- 185 - 190 (fights at 155)

    Rich Franklin - 220 (185)

    A. Silva - 210-215 (185)

    Matt Hughs - 185 - 190 (170)

    GSP - 190 - 200 (170)

    Forrest Griffin - 240 (205)

Sean Sherk is by far the craziest, cutting 30lbs or more for a heavie or light heavie is good but doing for a lightwieght is insane

  2. I've heard that Riggs walks around well over 200lbs and cuts to fight at 170. Franklin walks around at about 210-215 and cuts to 185. So yeah, anywhere from 15-25lbs is about the norm I'd say.

  3. I've heard that Sherk walks around at somewhere close to 190 and Silva walks around at 215.  Who else did you want to know about?

  4. ya, just to add to everyone's answers, its normally about 15-25. but u get the exception like Forrest Griffin. He's a really big guy, walks around at about 240. cuts a good 35 lbs.

  5. What answer do you want then? Silva walks around at 250lbs? r****d.

  6. The rule of thumb is 15%.  For most professional fighters you add 15% to their fight weight for a good guess at what their walking weight is.  For instance Silva fights at 185, 15% of 185 is 27 so I would guess Silva walks at 212.  Sherk fights at 155 so I would guess he walks at 177.  This formula works pretty well for most fighters.  I know Joe Riggs for instance use to weigh 300lbs so someone like him might walk with a little more weight then your "average" fighter.  When I use to fight at 205, I would walk at 230lbs.  I would also weight in for a fight at 205 after no water or no food for the previous 48hrs then after the weigh in I would eat and drink and end up weighing between 212 and 218lbs when I actually fought the next day.  This is common for most fighters, so when you see someone like Rampage in the ring before a fight and they announce his weight is 205lbs, that was the day before.  He probally is closer to 215 or 220 at the time of the fight, that is why some of those guys look so big for their weight at the time of the fight.

  7. Usually around 15-25 pounds above the weight they fight at.

  8. i think 15-25 is a pretty good estimate.

its going to be higher for guys at a higher weight.  maybe 25-35 for guys who fight 205.

"walking around" weight is a little ambiguous.

walking around as in, in great shape and ready to fight with only the water weight to come off or

walking around on full feed and full hydration and not training that hard.

when i wrestled in college at 150, on full feed and little training i weighed 180, but after several weeks of practice i would be close to 165 without really restricting my diet too much.

    the last 15 were tough.

ill bet the 190 for sherk is before he starts training hard for a fight.  ill bet he is close to 165-170 in no time at all when training hard.

obviously im just speculating on what the fighters actually weigh, but i have some experience with cutting having spent my whole life around the sport of wrestling.
