  1. They are mainly people who are too dumb to get their minds around the fact that it actually occurred. If you try to get into a rational discussion of it with them they will probably point out that since the earth is flat and the moon is far away then reaching it is impossible.

  2. Wrong forum ..  this is Science and Maths .. you want Society & Culture > Mythology & Folklore (or maybe > Religion & Spirituality :-) )

PS why isn't there a Yahoo Answers, Conspiracy section ??

(is it because 'they' don't want one ??)

  3. Only one real reason - ignorance.

  4. Most of these conspiracy theories revolve around light and shadows.   Shadows at different angles, astronauts appearing in LM shadow but appearing fully illuminated, flags that appear to wave in non existent atmosphere.  All anomalies have been shown to be attributable to a more logical explanation than a fake staged landing.

  5. Mutational (random) stupidity, genetic (inbred) stupidity, and/or eating a lot of paint chips when they were quite young ☺

    Doug

  6. These people are a dangerous threat to mankind, this mass stupidity has something to do with their inadequate brain power or lack of common sense.

  7. People just like a good conspiracy theory even if there is no truth to it.

Part if it is the pictures of the landings seem "wrong" on several counts.  This is a gut instinct from what we are used to and expect here on earth.  However, things work differently in space and in fact the photos are exactly consistent with what actually happens in space.

But some people would rather hold on to their beliefs rather than study the issue to see what the real answer is.

  8. A lot of those pro-faked people don't have the scientific or technological background to understand the material presented that completely blows away the conspiracy b.s. It's easier to swallow and then proclaim as truth the half-baked "scientific" and "technological" non-facts than to make any effort to dig out the real truth.

  9. 1.  There are people who do not want it to be true.  For some, it goes against their religious (or faked-religious) beliefs.  For example, if the Earth really is flat, then how can we orbit it on the way to the Moon?  If God made Earth our home, who are we to go somewhere else and dare remain alive?

    2.  There are those who see what is going on in their country (and in their government) and cannot believe that only a few generations ago, we could do things that cannot be done today.  This feeling is relatively common.  A lot of people cannot understand that [some] Classical Greek astronomers could actually understand the universe as well as most modern educated people.

    3.  The same people who look at their government see a lot of cover-up and lying, instead of real deeds.  They imagine that it has always been like that.  NASA is a government agency;  if a government agency (therefore, the government) says we have gone to the Moon, then it MUST be false.  That is how things work nowadays.

    4.  Some people take pleasure in fooling others (and no, they are not all politicians or religious leaders).  Just like the Big 2012 Hoax Off, there are people who enjoy creating myths, specially if it helps them sell books or "documentaries" in the process.

As president Carter said, some of them do it to willfully undermine the social fabric of the United States, to weaken the country.  In that particular case, they are just like terrorists of the mind (instead of blowing up buildings, they blow up futures).

5- Some people prefer to believe anything that they are told rather than take the trouble to understand what is really going on.  Understanding is a lot of work.  And you are often left doubting.  Are there really only three generations of quarks and leptons? Can heavy elements be produced in sufficient quantity (and fast enough) in second generation stars to explain our existence around a third generation star? Understanding is not always easy.

  10. gross stupidity.

even you appear to have issues with history, since it was moon landingS, plural.

  11. There is absolutely no evidence for the moon landings to be faked.  All the reasons are simply limitations of the human mind.  They point to the photographs which show the astronaut casting a dark shadow on the surface of the moon while the astronaut himself is sparsly lit.  "Shouldn't the astronaut be as dark as his shadow?"  The answer is obviously no because they don't take into account the reflected light from the surface of the moon that casts light on the astronaut.  When we get the same light here, we call it earthshine.

They also point out the fact that the mountains in the background never change in the pictures.  This can easily be explained by the fact that the mountains are 20 miles away and the astronauts never travel more than 5 miles from the LM.  When people on earth drive past a mountain 20 miles away, the mountain seems to stay in one place too.

They point to the fact that the film should have been destroyed by the solar radiation.  They can't accept the fact that the film is protected inside the filmholder.  There's no difference between the radiation on the moon and the radiation in earth orbit, but they accept the fact that we've sent men in earh orbit and they've ventured outside the spacecraft and taken pictures.  If they can accept that, why can't they accept the fact that the moon pictures are real too?

It's basically stupid arguments like that. People just don't know what they're talking about.  They refuse to see the truth.
