  2. Patience.  Be prepared for anything.  A little first aid helps too.

  3. depends on where you live ...in my state paraprofessionals have to have an associates degree unless they entered the profession prior to 1990....as far as skills  ...you need to study their developmental and emotional needs, young children especially toddlers have  more emotional and physical needs than say an eight year old.....check your local community college for courses to help you...

You need to be accepting of children as individual human beings.  You need to understand the laws and regulations applying to the type of facility you will be working in.  You need to have a good rapport with your teaching partner so that you understand the lessons being presented in order to support and extend them.  You need to be able to take over at a moment's notice in case the teacher is sick or needs to leave the room unexpectedly.  And you need to have a good rapport with families because you will have a lot of contact with them.  You also need to be observant, and a good communicator, so that you can share information with your partner that may pertain to child development, illness, behavior issues, etc.

    And one more thing, you need to always be thinking of ideas for lessons, books, activities, songs, etc. and be willing to share these with your partner!
