What are some of the steps to reduce road accidents?

personal guidelines, a reminder when I am driving my car...

I know the usual ones like don't speed, signal etc etc...

Here is what my Dad taught me and my brothers many years ago.

"Leave yourself an out"

"Always be thinking 'What if......?"

"Don't tailgate"

My advise, drive smoothly and skillfully.  Be aware of why you follow rules of the road.  Sounds simple, but all the laws and rules of the road are designed to help prevent accidents.  No accidents, no one gets hurt and no property damage.  Forgotten by so many these days.  Witnessed two drivers today blatantly running red lights.  If I was in charge, those drivers would have had their driver's licenses suspended for about a month.  Running red lights for example can cause horrific accidents.  No good in my eyes and entirely preventable.  Just so many not caring, don't give a d**n drivers on the roads.  Again, if I was in charge, there would be a lot of people walking, riding bicycles, or using public or private transportation.  Because they would be without a license.  Then maybe drivers will start taking their privilege a lot more seriously.

Don't run the lights and don't tailgate.  Be courteous  to other drivers.  And don't talk on the phone while driving.

Watch out for stupid people that pull out right when you get to where they are at. and bikers since you cant really see them that well...

Always look out for bikers. The amount of times I've heard "I didn't see you mate!" isn't worth counting.
