  1. Hello!!mad-kit, One of the things i know that is needed is people to help the tapes for the blind organisation, and there are several ways in which they can help but i am not sure what they are. You could enquire and i am sure you would find something there to suit you. There must be 100s of ways, why not go direct to the association and find out?.

  2. I have alot of blind patients and the best advise I can give you is to allow them to be themselves and encourage them to be as independant as possible.

For example, 1 man, I put ropes up around his house that led him to the places he needed to go, then he would follow that until he got to the doorway. I used differnent types of rope so he could tell the difference of where he was heading. I put them at just above waist length so there would not be any trip hazards. As I set things up for him in cabinets and the refridgerator, I used different shapes and sized bowls on food so he could distinguish what he was grabbing out. Then for the microwave, I put small pieces of tape that he could feel and count so he could heat his own meals already prepared for him. It works so well, he gets about as if he can see.

Sometimes you just have to be creative, but always allow the individual to still be self sufficient. You know they are going to be safe, but independant at the same time.

Best of luck to you! And thanks so much for caring!
