I'm starting my Junior year (11th Grade) in high school, and up until now I have gotten by without studying at all. But this year is extremely important, and I want amazing grades to help me get into a good university. Do you have any tips on studying/doing assignments/essays/etc?

Anything you have will help :)

  1. I hated studying, so here is what I did that worked.  I always went to class (in college, a lot of people skipped), and I took notes.  Before a test I would simply read the notes I had written, and read the summaries at the end of the reading chapters.  I might look over the bold words to make sure I know what they mean.  I never spend very long studying (it seems like it would wear me out, start to confuse me, etc.), and I would always get a good night's sleep and eat a lot before a test.  I would have confidence, and trust my memory, and build myself up that I was going to do good on tests, and I almost always did.  Oh, and I take all the time they give you for a test, and if you have extra time, double check every answer.

Papers, sometimes if I couldn't finish a paper in time or an assignment, I would turn it in late because I wanted it to be good.  Just always turn assignments in even if they're late (an F is so much better than a zero).  Pick topics that interest you whenever possible, and you will enjoy papers and assignments better.  Hope that helps.

  2. Well, I just graduated with a BA and I made it through years of school... studying hard. About my junior year actually.

The teachers/professors always tell you to start early, get out the note cards and begin to drill yourself a week ahead of time. Also if you can try to study in a similar environment with similar smells and feel this helps your brain remember what you studied before. Such as the smell of chalk or an eraser or something can trigger memory in your brain.

Those are great ideas for tests. However for assignments and essays never be afraid to visit the local library or the school library and get help from the librarian. They are awesome at helping with essays and written assignments.

Lastly, I would say stay on top of your work, don't procrastinate and you will be fine.
