What are some organizations that I can start a chapter of at my school?

I want to make a difference, and, since I don't have a lot of time to develop my own charity, I've decided to start a chapter of one at my school. Please include a couple of charities along with a brief description and a url if possible.

Thank you!

  2. That's great what you want to do to help people.

A couple of ideas:  Most cities have Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs.

Rotary Clubs do many things:  They have clubs for high schools called Interact.  The clubs raise money for charities and do other things to help people in your community.  They also have leadership programs, speaking opportunities and give scholarships to some of their Interact events and college.  One other thing they do is collect books to send overseas to people who have no books.  You can help at your school by collecting books and/or having a contest to collect them.  Rotary would love your help!

Lions Clubs support various types of charitable work, including collecting used eye glasses for people who can't afford glasses and they give them to them or the frames are used to get people glasses.

Kiwanis Clubs work with children. They have some great programs to help little children, one to help children lead healthy lives in urban cities, reading programs, and more.

The websites for these three great, reputable organizations are below. A great thing about working with starting a chapter or club at your school with one of them is that they all work locally, nationally and internationally in charitable work, so your chapter members can help at any of these levels.   Look on their website for a chapter in your area or state and contact them.

Whatever organization you connect with for your school, I suggest you work with a local group.

There are thousands of charities in each state, a million in the US, and millions more internationally.  Unfortunately there are bad apples who take your money and don't do what they say they are going to do or only a very small percentage of their money and time ever gets to the people in need.  Working with a local group helps you vet out the bad ones.

My best.  Hope this helps, Teresa

  3. Now, i have no idea what organizations your school has, but i completely recommend supporting "Free the Children".   My School does and we are able to raise a lot of money for them.  Students also seem to be more prone in donated money to this cause because if deals with kids.  Kids like to help other kids.
