I have a bad habit where on essays I say "Even though" and "Despite" for a lot of my sentences. What are some things I could say instead that still carry the same meaning, because there are some areas where I still need that type of phrase there.

  6. Actually, both of those are good phrases.  "Although" is another one, as are "Albeit" and "Regardless."  Basically, however, in order to smooth out the composition and have less repetition of such phrases, it would sometimes be better to reword a sentence completely.  Here's an example:

    Instead of saying:

"Although my sister likes ice cream, she didn't want any today," or "Despite the fact that my sister likes ice cream..."

    You could use:

"My sister likes ice cream; however she didn't want any today."

    Or simply:

"My sister likes ice cream, but she didn't want any today."

I hope all of this helps :)

  7. Maybe use words like:

    although

    however

    albeit

    whereas

    regardless

    granted

    nevertheless

    nonetheless

  8. ~Although

    ~However

  9. However, although, as far as, for instance.
