I really want to be stationed in Alaska if possible. I would just like to experience what Alaska has to offer. If anyone knows how I can pull this one off, I would greatly appreciate it. Oh my MOS is 19D just in case you wondered.

  1. If you have not shipped out to basic training yet, ask your recruiter if you can get a station of choice. They may have some options of places you can be stationed after AIT, but it may not be where you want. If they do not have Alaska, you would still be able to choose another place, and you would at least know where you are going. If you are already in there are a couple ways to get to Alaska if your MOS has a job there.

The first and most easy way to get what you want is to get onto your AKO (Army knowledge on line) account and on the right hand side, almost at the bottom of the page you'll see a small section libeled "Army links." Under that you will see a link called "Assignment satisfaction key." Click on that link, and then at the top of the page click on preferences. On the page that comes up you can chose your preferred assignments, 3 in the states, and 3 over seas. Alaska is considered overseas. Next Click on volunteer at the to of the page. Under Oconus select Alaska. That basically tells the army that you really want to go there, where as the preferences tells the army that if you have to move from where you are currently stationed, that is where you would like to go.

        Good luck.

  2. As a 19 Delta I don't see Alaska in your future. Now Ft Hood, TX or Ft Stewart, GA are possibilities. Generally a scout will be stationed with armor units. I think there are some at Campbell or Bragg but I would plan on being around some tanks and Bradley's.

  3. you will just have to take what you get but just keep looking for positions open in alaska after your 3rd year and maybe you will eventually get there

  4. Recruiters can arrange a station of choice option if you have not signed your contract yet.

Within CONUS, you only get to pick the state, but there isn't much in Alaska except Fort Wainwright.

Good luck and thanks for serving.

  5. 1st Sqd/40th Cav/4th BCT (Airborne) 25th ID, Ft. Richardson Alaska. Not all of the 25th is getting a tan!

I think the guaranteed duty station is not an option now. Don't let that stop you from asking. The receiving unit would need to have a slot for you or hold one.
