  1. Some basic ones Rossetti uses are imagery and similes. The poem is told in first person by the cottage maiden and she says she "might have been a dove". The dove is used to allude to her innocence. One example of simile is: "He wore me like a silken knot". Here she compares herself to clothing that can be put on or discarded.
