  1. I used to live in Maracaibo, Venezuela from 1975 to 1983.  There is an organization called the North American Association (NAA).  Not just Americans are members of it.  You have your British, Canadian, New Zealand, Austrailian,

etc.  Downtown Maracaibo has alot of shops for souveneirs,

knick knacks, etc.  The 2 hotels to stay are the Hotel Del Lago and the Hotel Maruma.  There are 2 restaurants that serve really good and really thick steaks.  One is called El Gaucho and the other is Mi Vaquita.

The Holidays that are observed are Simon Bolivars birthday, the independance of Venezuela (July 5th), and Christmas.

  2. Caracas and Maracaibo are amazing cities, a must to visit if in Venezuela.

In Maracaibo (at night) the Rafael Urdaneta bridge looks amazing and colorful. In Carabobo street (barrio Empedrado) the majority of the houses are painted in really bright colors, it is beautiful. The Vereda del Lago Park holds concerts a lot, you could catch one while your there. While you are there, stop by a local market and pick up a drink called Chinotto, it was the best thing i have ever tasted. Also, if you want a good restaurant, there is an amazing one on the top floor of the El Paseo Hotel, the floor revolves 360 degrees and gives you a beautiful scenic look at the city.

In Caracas the Central University of Venezuela is a world heritage site and is one of the oldest universities in all of Latin America (founded 1721). In Caracas you can also visit the birth house of the famous Simón Bolívar. El Hatillo in Caracas has really nice colonial buildings The Los Próceres Monument is really beautiful. And the Cerro El Ávila National Park is just full of green, green and more green.

  3. Ok, Im Venezuelan and as a suggestion I would recommend you to visit:

Margarita Island which is where I used to live. Its a good place to go shopping, to the beach and discos at night. Its a quiet place with about 450.000 inhabitants. I like it very much.

You should also visit Merida which is in mainland, a 1 hour flight from margarita. Merida is a colonial town mainly and you can go up the mountain in a cable car to enjoy the view and play with the snow if you are lucky.

You can also visit Canaima national park and angel falls. You will find this area to be completely different to life at the cities and its very very beautiful, peacefull and fun at the same time. There is one thing though, you need to be in a good physical condition to visit angel falls.

Caracas is just like any other big city, same as maracaibo, valencia, those are just big noisy and kinda dangerous cities like in any other part of the world.

    Just my two cents!
