  2. I agree with what Joe said.  If you stay in Nerja I recommend the hotel Paradores.  You won't believe the amazing view of the beach below from the back yard lawn and sunbathing area behind the outdoor dining area of the restaurant.

Also along the coast are Malaga, large city with good museums and plenty of other attractions and Marbella, one of the more upscale resort areas.

All along the Costa del Sol are nice smaller beach towns and villages all the way from Nerja to Gibraltar.  Gibraltar is also worth the trip and just a bit beyond is the launch point to get to Tangier, Morocco, Africa for a day trip out of Tarifa.  You take a ferry for a 45 minute ride across the straits and you're there.  A day tour is your best bet from a travel agency and everything is arranged round trip for a reasonable price.  If you have a day to give, this is a great trip and you get to eat a nice lunch and ride a camel too.

Hope this also helps you.  Have a great trip!

  3. there are a lot of great places in southern Spain to visit. As far as cities go, I would stop by Granada. Its one of the bigger cities in southern Spain and it has Alhambra, a huge Moorish fortress and palace overlooking the city. This alone is reason enough to go to Granada, it really is impressive. Also the older section of the city has a nice vibe to it and a great view of Alhambra.

Las Alpujarras are the mountains in southern Spain and they are full of amazing white-washed mountain towns where you can go hiking or just relax and enjoy the scenery. Further down from the mountains is the Costa Del Sol and the pueblos that are settled along the beaches. All of them are great but I would recommend Nerja.

Nerja was my favorite place in southern Spain when I was there. It has clear blue water and rocky cliffs on the beach, plus lots of great restaurants for Spanish seafood dishes. Sometimes they have awesome festivals on the beaches in these towns, check them out for sure.
