  1. I was there for 12 years, didn't know anybody when I got there and decided to stay, every day was a wonderful surprise and I still miss it. The worst thing is the high unemployment, and Valencia is a small town so there's a lot of competition for the good jobs. I had European papers so I didn't have a problem with taxes other than paying them! There's no purchase tax though, nobody tips anybody so it can be cheap in the long run. Getting around is very cheap, everything is pretty close so you can walk most anywhere, and if not there's excellent public transportation. In other areas. There are some things that are very cheap (bottle of outstanding champagne for under 3 Euros, rent for a 3-br in downtown was 250/month, a fresh loaf of bread at the bakery was about 60 cents) but some other things that are expensive (60 Euros and up for a haircut, also clothes and shoes can be $$$) but it's all relative. If you need more details write me to kebvee@yahoo.com. Hope you have a wonderful time!

  2. I lived in Valencia for three months...it was study abroad... not so keen on the taxes there. but i did travel around the whole city back and forth on a regular basis.. Public transportation is manageable.. the Subway system isn't overly complex.. Madrid's was far superior.  The buses run regularly, but more run during the summer months.  I'd usually take the subway over the buses and walk the difference... allot of times that was faster..  its nice the lady told you the rent costs a month..but I thought I'd mention how according to 5  Valencianos who I asked about the average income.. it's between 300-400 euros a month... I remember being shocked..thinking that a full time Mc. Donalds worker makes that much in America (though i doubt the get the health coverage the Spanish government pays for)... an idea more about costs... I bought an electric razor - 106 euros (a far superior razor in the US costs about half that) .... a 40oz of Amstel beer costs  1 euro.... I bought a pair of shoes for 100 euros (and they were one of the cheapest)... Oh and a very important thing...NOTHING is INSULATED...I lived on thee 8th floor like a polar bear in November because we had no heat.....only a small estufa en la cocina..... make sure to stock up on robes and slippers and things like that for the colder months.......

but enjoy the valencian summer sun

    que bueno
