  1. depends if you are a stupid american or not

  2. Most of us take people as we find them, so just be yourself and enjoy.

  3. We Aussies are a fairly laid back bunch.....I'm sure you will enjoy your stay. We have a larrikin/take the mickey style sense of humour....sometimes a mocking, self depreciating sense of humour ~ Can take some getting used to if you're not from Aus. but a lot of people from overseas view Aussies as a friendly bunch.

  4. I went to Australia with a hip hop artist, to film concerts. I met all walks of life in Australia.

Generally, Australians love Americans. They are very curious of us and have alot of questions. Silly questions!

I remember I showed a group of guys a one dollar bill, they said it looked "boring". Then they asked "whos that guy on there" and I told them George Washington...they asked me "is he important?" lol. I said..."kinda..." :)

Another thing I noticed is that they are obsessed with American media and Hollywood. They are engulfed in paparazzi magazines. Everywhere I went, gas stations, markets, laundry mats, they all had NATIONAL ENQUIRER cheap hollywood magazines. They have USA ones and UK

    ones!!!

I met a few Australians that hated Americans. There are some that have prejudices.

Their biggest assumptions about us are that we are:

    1. Fat (which is true compared to them)

    2. Arrogant (which is usually true, but the french are worse lol)

    3. Loudmouthed (only if youre from new york or boston)

    4. George Bush supporting

    5. Gun owning

Alot of Australians asked me about guns and crime in America, and murders and stuff like that. Alot of them couldnt believe I had shot guns or had owned them. Im from Texas so its very normal for me to have a gun lol

    Good luck on your trip!!

  5. A number of Americans who come here are very loud and demanding as customers in shops and restaurants and their accent makes them stand out from the crowd. If you're not like that, and adopt a more laid back attitude like Aussies have, you won't have any problems.

  6. the only prejudices against Americans that i know of is when they are bigmouth smartasses who think they know everything(they don't)lucky there is not a lot like that all the others are fine

  7. I think the biggest (mis?)conception we have of americans is that they are so obsessed with america and all the propaganda that america perpetuates that they can't appreciate any other country. I have travelled, and I have met some terriffic americans  - friendly and funny. But on the other hand, I have seen a lot of the steryotypical loud, brash tourist type americans.
