  1. la leche league's website.

  2. online info:

http://www.kellymom.com/ (i always look here first)

    http://www.askdrsears.com/html/2/T020100...

    http://www.breastfeeding.com/

    official policy:

    http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi...

    http://www.who.int/topics/breastfeeding/...

how to find an expert to help you:

    http://www.llli.org/

    http://www.ilca.org/

btw, i wouldn't consider your health visitor or doctor to be particularly informed about breastfeeding except in the most general sense.  your doctor did not take a breastfeeding class in medical school.  it's possible that you health visitor or doctor is also a certified lactation consultant, but it's not likely.  i often hear about doctors and nursing giving advice about breastfeeding that is contrary to the AAP or the WHO.

  3. i found the best way was people i knew that had breast fed as they were able to give me advice on what worked for them and also show me some techniques.

  4. Try:

    www.breastfeeding.com

a local lactation consultant (ask your doc or hospital)

look up the La Leche League online or locally

    GOOD LUCK
