What are some problems you see when it comes to recycling garbage?

When you say garbage, do you mean compostable substance or do you mean "trash" as a whole?

My Grandmother always said: trash in the trash can, garbage in the garbage can ... I said:  What's the diff?

Answer: Garbage is wet, trash is dry.

I live in the town limit area, but the nearest recycling center is an hour.  Although the county gave everyone a recycling bin, I have seen the garbage men trashed the recyclables.  In addition, my workplace has a recycling bin, but co-workers won't walk downstairs to recycle the item.  However, they go downstairs to eat lunch.

not many my only problem is getting it out of my house and down to the recycling center! its not convenient to do at all. especially  when they pick my garbage up at home they should pick up my recycling as well

Widespread availability of curbside pick up of recyclables.

The fact that we ship most of it out to third world countries and don't really know what happens to it after that.

People would rather throw stuff out then take the time to sort and clean out recyclables.

Most schools, corporations, companies, stores don't do it and home recycling is only going to accomplish so much.

A huge amount of compostable food waste is thrown into a plastic bag in a landfill because people don't view it as recyclable.

Recycling isn't the answer to all our problems because recycling uses more toxic chemicals and produces more carbon to produce an inferior product.

Lack of knowledge about what is and isn't recyclable and where to take things like electronics, paints, prescription drugs etc.

I don't have any garbage. I recycle everything or compost it.

I have a problem recycling at my workplace.  The workplace goes to the trouble to put out recycle bins and cans.  People go to the trouble to recycle properly, but then housekeeping puts the recycled materials in with the rest of the garbage.  So disheartening.  As far as personal recycling, the biggest problem is getting recycle programs in every city, and getting people to actually participate.
