I am starting a program for mostly E.I. or L.D. in a middle/high school level. I would like to know the supplies or software or books that you cannot live without. Thank you!

  1. The best supply that most special-needs students can't live without is a caring, supportive and educated teacher willing to speak out for the student's needs.  I highly recommend reading about Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)...more specifically the Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB) methodology fathered by B.F. Skinner.  Learn how to write effective Behavior Intervention Plans and how to implement a token economy system.  I have seen children go from throwing chairs across the classroom to being fully included in a general ed classroom within two years.  ABA and AVB is amazing stuff!  Although ABA is touted for autism, I have seen it work for students with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and even husbands!

  2. There are no books or equipment that you must have.  I take it you will be teaching?  Just relax the school have all the necessary equipment I would have thought and if you needed anything I am sure you would have had all of these for your courses.  This is mainly children with some form of ASD so you must read thier I.E.Ps

  3. A good school psychologist.

  4. Need a good classroom management system.

Good social skills, conflict management programs.

    timers

  5. The best book I ever read was by Harry Wong:

    The First Days of School

I think this book should be required reading for all teachers.

The Wongs have also released their eLearning course, Classroom Management with Harry and Rosemary Wong
