  1. Pro of course is saving others lives

Cons is controversial... SOME people believe if your body is near death and there just so happens to be a little boy that needs a heart transplant, they're less inclined to save you.

Just a thought, personally I am a donor.

  2. Mostly pros, it's hard to see anything negative about giving away something you have no use for.  The only real con is that it forces you to think about something that most of us don't want to think about.

It's great that you are considering it, only you can decide what is right, but I commend you for at least considering it, most people don't.  I wish you a long and happy life!

And by the way, no reputable transplant surgeon would encourage substandard care of an accident victim because they are listed as a donor - if that ever happened the donor pool would dry up in a heartbeat.

  3. Pro: you could save a life, perhaps many lives with the donation of your organs after you die.

Con: some religions believe it is a sin to mutilate (remove organs in this case) a body.

Con: your family can prevent the donation of your organs.  You will have to make sure they understand your wishes and agree to let your organs be used to save lives if possible.

  4. Pro is if you die your organs can help others.

Con....can't think of why you would care since you would be dead.

  5. Pro you organ will use in science or to help people when you die

Con They might not try to save you because they want you organ

Con you might want to be buried with all your body parts

Con your wife or other family member might not want them to cut you.

  6. pro: you could save someones life

con: they don't use your organs and your family might be distraught at the thought of it.

does it really matter your dead, it's not gonna hurt if you if someone uses your organs, because I believe the you could SAVE SOMEONES LIFE defeats all other Cons, but that's just me

  7. Did you know that your body can help twenty other people to live better, or to survive?  30,000 people die in the US every year waiting for livers, hearts, lungs, etc.  My GF is a kidney transplant recipient.  And years later, I broke my arm and got a graft of freeze-dried human bone.

My mom was afraid if she had the donor sticker on her driver's license they might cut her up before she was really dead.  I wondered about that. But nobody has ever come back from 'brain death'.  You can be breathing your heart still beating, but if you aren't making brain waves you are dead, you are not coming back.

That's why I don't like to hear stories of people who 'died', followed the light down the tunnel, and saw relatives who had died, who told them to go back, and all that.  None of the people who had these experiences was really dead.

Anyway, I think you should put it on your license.  I would feel good knowing that my parts went to save other peoples' lives.
