I have a dwarf hamster which I got a couple of days ago and I think she might be pregnant. Just to be on the safe side, what are some protein foods to give her?

  1. The following protein rich fods can be given to pregnant hamsters -

Bits of hard boiled egg (preferably only the white since white is rich in proteins and the yellow portion can be too fattening)

Skimmed milk (don't give full cream milk, fattening for the little hamsters)

Bits of cheese (plain cottage cheese, unsalted and unflavoured)

    Bread soaked in skimmed milk

Hard dog biscuits (without added sugar in them, check the ingredients on carton before buying)

Apart from proteins you can also feed the pregnant hamster the following -

Cod liver oil - 1/2 tsp spread over her food mix in the food dish twice a week

Vitamin drops - these are available at all pet shops and you can add 4 drops to the water of a full standard sized hamster water bottle.

Include more variety in her diet, for a list of food you can and cannot give a hamster, visit the following link -

  2. scrambled Eggs and bread soaked in milk. also cooked pinto beans. Mine loved the milk with bread.
