What are some "must see" towns/cities around (within 300 miles) Delhi, India?

I'm thinking of taking a trip to India. I would like to take a train adventure starting in Delhi and ending in Delhi. Other than Agra, what are some must see cities/towns to see in the viscinity (within 300 miles or so) of Delhi? These places must be able to be reached by train. I'm looking for scenic beauty and towns that really showcase all India has to offer.

There are many, in terms of archaeological cities: Agra, Jaipur, Alwar, Nahan, religious: Mathura, Garhmukteshwar, Kurushetra, hills will be little far but then also you can go to the nearest hill station from Delhi which is Kasauli in himachal. Jaipur is closer city to Delhi as best palace.

You can go to Nainital and from there Chandigarh and back to Delhi.
