  1. Sony A350

    Pentax K200D

    Olympus E-520

    Nikon D60

    Canon XSi

The best way to choose a camera is by doing a side by side comparison of the features and benefits. Once you've narrowed your choices down to 2 or 3, find a local camera store (a store that only sells cameras, not 10,001 other things and cameras) that sells the ones you're most interested in and try them out.

Once you've decided, buy the camera from that store. Yes, you may pay a little more but you'll have ready access to a knowledgeable person who can help you with problems and answer questions. Most camera stores offer an hour or two of actual instruction with your purchase.

  2. We just did a model shoot.

We used a Nikon D300 with 24-85 mm lens and SB600 flash, a Canon 1Ds, Mark III with 24-70 mm f/2.8 lens and 580EXII.

Both those cameras are outside your budget, but look at the Nikon D90 with a 24-70 mm lens ... slightly outside your budget, but well worth waiting go gather the necessary extra money over your $1000 cap.  The other option would be the Canon 50D with the same length lens (but Canon of course).  You will not need external flashes if you use a good studio setup with some 500 watt or better incandescent lights with umbrellas.

  3. Given your budget I'd go with this:

    Nikon D80

    18-135 Nikkor lens

    SB 800 flash

Not a top of the line pro outfit, but within your budget, and a very workable rig for the foreseeable future.

Alternatives to tone down the costs somewhat:

    28-105 Nikkor

    SB 600 flash.

Hah!  Come to think of it, that's my rig exactly - D80, 28-105, SB600.

  4. http://www.amazon.com

that's the best place to buy photographic equipment from, that's the only place that i get my things from. They have cheaper prices, friendly service, and really fast shipping. I wouldn't get my things anywhere else.

When it comes to a really nice camera for that price, i think you should get the Canon eos 40d, here's a link for you:

Just save up a few more dollars, if you're getting payed for your photography, it'll pay itself off.
