  1. If your body doesn't produce milk then obviously you can't.  But if your body makes milk, then all you can do is try.  If the baby isnt' gaining weight though, they may make you switch to formula or mix your breast milk with formula.  Some breast milk isn't nutritious enough and the baby doesn't gain weight.  But all you can do is try.  Most formulas are good.  Created to be almost as good as breastmilk.  If your self concious about breast feeding, then get a pump, and pump the milk and bottle feed your baby.  that way your hubby can help to.

  2. 1. the only thing i can think of are breast implants, since they alter your mammary glands. Any other issues with time you would be able to cope with them.

  3. i think you are underestimating your doctor. but to answer your question there are a number of things. baby may not be able to latch on. your nipples could be inverted. your baby may not be able to digest your milk or just cant take it and could be lactose intolerant. but i really wouldn't worry about these things till baby is born. in most cases you will breastfeed successfully.

as for formula im not sure where you are from but im in Australia and i used Nan gold formula my baby took to it really well after i stopped breastfeeding her. so if you have that where you are i would suggest that.

  4. All b*****s can lactate.  Are you asking because you are wondering about it post partum? Don't worry about it, because the hormones in your body will cause lactation.  You can also talk to a lactation consultant or hook up with Le Leche League.

Or, do you wish to find a reason not to?  Lactating reduces the chances of breast cancer by 30%, and the bond between the woman and child, or woman and an adult nurser is truly heavenly (I know, I nurse as often as I can!).

Nurse your baby, and nurse your husband, too.

  5. some times the baby just does not do it well and takes to a bottle better ... or your in too much pain ... stuff you can get for that though.  i was on medication that would harm my twins so decided it was better for them not to have it, twins sometimes you just don't have enough milk supply.  The baby is growing too fast and you don't have enough supply.  My kids are healthy healthy and were on formula after the first two weeks of their lives.  And the cheap brand as my sister researched it and its just as good as the expensive brand.

  6. There shouldn't be any reason why you will not be able to breast feed.  It may be a bit more difficult for certain reason i.e if the nipples are inverterted or the baby has a tongue tag (where the small flap of skin at the bottom of your tongue is to close to the tip of your tongue).

These happended to me but i still managed.

The only other reason would be simply if the baby doesnt take to it and as a result doesnt get enough milk.

  7. The main reason most women have trouble breastfeeding is what your doctors, hospitals and friends lead you to believe. First thing to do is call either La Leche League International or a local reputable lactation consultant. Next thing is to get the book The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. Great book..read the whole thing! You can also check the link I gave to their resources page.

Your body made a baby, you can feed it. Sometimes you need to change how you eat or feed your baby, but it can be done. I have had everything from thrush to sore nipples and bad latch to lactose intolerance. I still managed to nurse my first for 20 mos and my second for over 2yrs. YOU CAN DO IT! neither had a bottle or soother even, they were very offended that I tried..lol. I was not stuck at home attached to my baby. They either drank out of a cup(4mos) or I was back before next feeding.

I am SO thankful that there are good formulas out there, but I would chose breastmilk over it any day. It's free, perfect temp, clean and it's never forgotten at home...perfect!!

Doctors and hospitals often do what is easier for them, not the best for your long term relationship with your baby. Get a good support system to help and encourage you, find women close to where you live that are breastfeeding and let your hubby help out at home. My midwife tells my hubby when I am pregnant, "you know she is going to sit and nurse a lot for the first while right?" He always says "Yes of course I would expect nothing less!" I love my hubby!

Good Luck and enjoy your baby! =)

  8. unless your body just won't produce milk there is no reason you can't breastfeed. You may have problems at first but there are solutions to all of them. Just make sure the hospital you go to has a good lactation consultant and read up on it! There are lots of good books on breastfeeding. People with implants (depends on exactly which surgery they got because they can do them two different ways) usually can still breastfeed.

*inverted nipples can be easily corrected

*everyone gets sore or expirences some pain at first.. it will pass quickly

*you can build up your milk supply if your body isn't making enough

*the baby was born to breastfeed if it isn't latching on properly this is where the lactation consultant comes it

*the chance that your baby is allergic to breast milk is like 0.01. The chance that your baby is allergic to the milk in formula is MUCH higher.

it is true some meds will keep you from breastfeeding but lots of times these meds can be altered! Otherwise there is NO SUCH THING as breastmilk that isn't healthy enough for the baby.
