Question:

What are some red flags that a rescue isn't reputable?

I'm asking this more for informational purposes for those that may not be aware or informed (I myself know what to look for).

On the flip side: What makes a rescue reputable?

All thoughts and comments welcome :)

  1. If they don't give you a form to fill with questions like:

Name and number of current vet

Status/info of your living arrangements like fenced yard.

They should also check the home the animal will be living in.

Check the rescue site if able so you can see how the animals are being handled.

  2. In the UK the reputable rescues will do home visits to ensure that the pet that they place with you is going to a good home.

They don't let you just walk in and walk out with a dog, you have to get to know the dog first to check that you and the dog will be compatible.

    They also spay and neuter.

A reputable rescue should also state that if for any reason the adoption doesn't work out, that you return the dog to them.

If any rescue doesn't do these things then l'd avoid it and find one that does.
