Hot tea with honey and lemon really is best.  Honey is a natural antibiotic, and lemon is an excellent antiseptic.

Any warm liquid with honey. You can even just take a teaspoon of honey. This works like a charm.

Gargle with warm salt water. Follow with hot tea and honey. If you have any tea with slippery elm like throat coat or throat comfort that would be ideal.
