  1. Make some paper money and invent a shopping game. The little kids will learn about spending and saving. It also teaches them how to make mental calculations.

  2. Take an 2 ice cubes

Wrap them up in seperate cloths

    Smash one with a hammer

Ask the child which one will melt first

    Look at the results

The smashed one melts faster as there is more surface area for the heat to transfer (i always remember that when i was a child... must of had an impact on me!)

  3. I'm sorry, but you are talking about infants who are nine months old to toddlers that are just two years old?!?  I don't understand why we as a society feel compelled to push our children academically at such a young age.  Babies this age do not need structured learning activities.  They need to have experiences such as being talked to and talked with or taken to places such as the local park, zoo, children's museum, etc.  They can learn about temperature by going outside and talking about what the weather is like.  Is it hot or cold?  Is it windy, rainy, foggy, snowy, sunny, etc?   As for math, talk about what colors things are.  What color is the grass?  The sky?  The sun?  Find something that is red.  How many chicken nuggets are on your plate?  Count things up to about 5.  Whatever you do, make it fun.  Learning at this very young age should be fun and games, as children this age learn best through play.  I am a kindergarten teacher and I am working on my master's degree in early childhood education.  I have had students in my class who are completely burned out on school and hate to come.  That is what happens when children are pushed too hard when they are too young.  Let your babies be young children and explore their world naturally.

  4. The best thing to do with such a young group is to show them pictures of the different seasons and discuss whether it is hot or cold. You can show different activities like swimming and building a snowman, and ask whether you do these things when it is hot outside or cold. You can also hold up articles of clothing and ask if you wear them when it is hot or when it is cold.

As for older children, keeping a daily weather/temperature log is great. Also, measuring the temperature of different objects in the sun and in the shade.

For older children, you can talk about estimation with temp, Celsius vs Fahrenheit, colors that conduct heat, etc.

  5. 9-24 month olds are too young for experiments unless you have a two to one ratio- best math activity number puzzles that identify the number and show correspondence (ex 1 has picture of one apple)- science- weather is easiest- sunny/cloudy/raining, cold/hot- pictures or flashcards

remember they are very young and will not always grasp a concept- make it fun with songs - itsy bitsy spider for rain as an example

  6. I don't know, but I taught my son to insert batteries in the toy cars when he was just six months old. He had one very good habit that he never tried to 'eat' anything as other infants usually do. Now, he is 3 and plays with 'mechano'. He handles spanners and s***w driver very easily and is quite addicted to it. I won't suggest this to anybody because now he give a d**n to other important activities.

  7. Do an  experiment with boiling water and boiling points.

  8. Teach them the difference between hot and cold.  Show them pictures of both so that they can begin to distinguish between the two.  Also, sign language as a part of the lesson will be awesome.

  9. use dressing up clothes and put on the clothes for hot weather or cold weather.  Keep it simple and fun.
