What are some securities that you can invest in and what is the difference between them?

Basically, there are two types of investing that you can put your teeth into:

Equity Investments - where you buy shares of ownership of a business. You make money when the value of that business goes up, by way of dividends or share price appreciation;

Debt Investments - where you lend your money and the borrower will pay you a fixed return over a period of time.
