  2. Some harmful short and long term effects of GM foods include allergen reactions in people, toxicity, and higher cost.

    People who normally don't have an allergen to unmodified fruits or veggies might develop an allergic reaction to genetically engineered  proteins in GM produce.

    The good effects (or benefits) include the ability to provide nutrients (vitamins/minerals) in countries like Africa to people who have ailments due to various deficiencies like Rickets-vit D.  Another benefit would be significantly less or absence in  the use of pesticides on the crops. The crops would not be damaged due to insects or fungal growth on them. More of the crops would grow and survive.
