What are some similarities between visual art and music?

In Western history, the two generally evolved together, so the ideas and inspirations of one media would influence the other.

Compare: Renaissance art and music, Baroque art and music,   Neo-Classical/Rococo art with Classical-era music, Romantic-era art and music, Impressionism, Modernism, Minimalism.

Since this would be a very long discussion (have you ever studied either art history or music history?), you will have a lot of reading to do to see how it all relates!

I come from primarily a visual art background. The two have in common, in my opinion, pattern, color, shape, form, emotion, but the way these are communicated are different. It is like expressing an emotion with a different language.
