What are some simple activites for children to do?

I am trying to make things at home that are unique but desirable...my mom mentioned I had a book that was homemade and each had a different activity. Button the button, snap the snaps, thread the yarn through the holes, etc What are some other ideas for a book like this?

I've called these "Busy Books".  You can purchase them or make them.  

velcro....I've seen it where they match colored flowers or balloons.  Used velcro on the back to place "cars" of a train in order by number, etc.

Textures-silk, corduroy, rick rack etc.

Zippers I think has been already mentioned.
