Question:

What are some simpler tricks I can teach my Goffin's Cockatoo?

She knows a few tricks like: step up, come, putting her toys away, and shake. I didn't start her training program too long ago so I don't want to discourage her. I tried teaching her fetch but she has no idea what I want from her and hasn't been making any progress. I thought maybe if my dad would help me by showing her an example (I [[or he]] says fetch and the other person gets the ball for me/him then gets praised) but he won't cooperate at all and says it's my project. Well stupidity is doing the same thing over and over knowing it won't work so I figured I'd get back to that trick later and teach her some easier ones.

Any ideas?

  1. I taught all my conures "yes" and "no" first!

Very simple. Took all of my birds 10 minutes (some around 4-5!), there so smart (as one is hanging upside down as of this message haha they're too great!)

The way I taught my birds was violently nodding your head (warning You'll look like a fool!) And repetitively say "Yes" Positively

When your bird says yes give him a treat, such as one of his favorite kinds of pelletes or a piece of millet.

Pretty much same with no, but the shaking didn't work this time.

move the food side to side so his head follows and say "no"  Later add "(birds name) say no" (or yes). This method works for both Yes and no.

Later add "say yes benny" or "say no benny" and when they do it on command keep praising as it will become more fine tuned.
