I want to make a flower border around my patio and i need to find a few different kinds of short perrennials that flower a lot and that last a long time so i don't have to re-plant flowers every spring. Any suggestions?

  1. I use zinnias http://wyzmo.com/images/Zinnias.jpg and marigolds http://www.pyroenergen.com/articles/imag...

Both these plants come in tall and short varieties; they also come in different shades.  Both like full sun and are pretty hardy regarding pests and diseases.  Unfortunately, they're both annuals, but they can (and do) reseed.

I also use dianthus (pinks) http://billybeezer.com/images/garden/dia... which are "tender perennials", meaning they have the ability to come back year after year if they don't freeze too hard.  Mine have lived through 2 ice storms, so they're pretty hardy!

Another poster mentioned Shasta daisies.  These are good all-season-blooming perennials, but they require moist well-drained soil.  Be prepared to water them daily, but they're spectacular!  http://www.sonic.net/~webclass/templates...

  2. first of all you did not say what zone you are , the zone is for the perennials that you want to plant so they can survive in your area. then you did not say if it was a sunny or partly sunny and shady or just shady there are so many different plants for different areas. Go to the web site for wayside gardens or park seed and figure out the zone and then check the area for where you want to plant and take a  look at what they have and you will be amazed. Good luck!

  3. Check out a dwarf balloon flower.  I have one that only gets about a foot high.  It blooms late June through the rest of the summer and has very pretty blue flowers.  Also, check out some coreopsis.  There are many varieties and then dont get higher than about 1-2 feet and they will bloom all summer and into the fall.

  4. Snow cap Shasta Daisies.  They are the dwarf variety and they only get about 8 inches tall.  Great for any border!
