I would like to give small town living a try, but would prefer to be within an hour of Austin in case something comes up. What are some small towns close to Austin, Texas?

  1. I love Bastrop. It's about 20 minutes to Downtown Austin but has a laid back, everyone knows everyone feel. Hardly any crime, a couple of great restaurants and bakeries. I am looking into moving there after my children are gone.

  2. Buda10 min/ Menchaca 5 min/ Kyle San Marcas 45 min/

    Round Rock 1hour/ LockHeart 55 Min/

  3. delvalle,bastrop

  4. round rock tx it is less then an hour drive i know cuz i live there lol but yea round rock is not a bad place at all!

  5. Kyle, San Marcos, NEW BRAUNFELS. [;

  6. Buda, Kyle, Marble Falls, Wimberely (a little farther), Driftwood...

  7. Maybe Marble Falls, Wimberly, Smithville, Lockhart, etc (these are the bigger "small towns") - although they'd might be further than an hour away when there's traffic.  Just look on the map for more names about that same distance away.  If you're too close in (like Elgin, Lakeway, Taylor, Georgetown), or someplace on the I-35 corridor, there's a lot more suburban type areas for people who commute to Austin daily. Austin is right on a fault line (inactive, no worries) and there's a pretty obvious geographical difference between the areas East of Austin and West of Austin.  West is "hill country", and East is more farmland prairie type land, so it's definitely a different feel.
