  1. i think they should take the ban off beating, they used to do it in my day don't know why they stopped now.

  2. Increase the amount of monitored social interaction..more 'fun time'.

    1. Small scale social events (no more than 50 students at a time). This could include everythign from talent shows to debating matches or even just random chatting/arguing sessions....ALL WITH SUPERVISION.

    2. More sports. Not just for teams, but as a regular part of the curriculum. Remove excess energy.

Violence in Jamaican schools has to do with kids being insufficently taught to handle social situations. Arguments that should be resolved verbally get inflamed to violence through sheer ignorance or even because of embarrasment. It worst if the kid's home environment directly praises violence.

By including more activities in controlled settings, teachers can ensure that more students have a chance to know that there are easier and more mature ways to handle conflict. Most will actually learn from it, to varying extents.

The irony is that schools hate to promote these kind of social activities because they require 'to much montioring', to ensure that violence (or sexual 'misbehaviour') does not occur.

  3. Better parenting. The foundation of a child begins in the home and extends to the communities surrounding them. (church, school etc) If one was brought up in a home where cussing was a faux, there were sensibly disciplined and the family environment was a rich and strong one, the likely hood of them being influenced by externalities decreases. Parents should be attentive and take more care with there kids and not believe that its the schools job to raise there kids. How can a teacher do what you wont do or even reinforce at home??

  4. More home works
