Okay.. let us start with the Sun is the Single only source for Large volume Solar Power... aside from that you have the solar power from a candle as an example. Something has to put off light in order to give off Solar Power

Ways to utilize solar power on the other hand appear to me to be what you are needing to know.

The best example is Line-Drying clothing... that actually puts Solar Power & Wind Power to use.. some folks fail to realize that is Solar Power... but it is, in fact, the sun and the air that dry the clothes. In addition, clothes that are line dried last longer & come out with less wrinkles that occur with using a dryer.

There are solar panels intended to store & use solar power. An easy and very small example of this is the Solar Powered garden lighting sold at places like HomeDepot or Lowes and another is Solar Powered Calculators

Larger Solar Panels have been used for Street Lighting (look for the panels in the medians on Interstates), heating water, heating homes, and for generating electrical current

SkyLights are a great example of simply using the sun in place of electic lights & sky lights can also be helpful in bathrooms to help keep the water warm while you bathe

As recently as 1930, houses were built on the lots based on where the sun rose & set in order to utilize the daylight for everything from lighting to home heating. These days that is seen as a smart architect who thinks about the effects of the rising and setting of the sun on a house. Also, overhangs.. one of the original functions of overhangs was to prevent to much sun from getting into a room in the dead heat of summer (before air conditioning)

Solar Power in it's purest form is one of the key components for growth... how many plants do you know grow in total darkness?

Old Times... folks used the sun to dry apples (as an example) instead of dehydrators like are used today. It was common to sprinkle a little sulpher & place slices of apple on the tin roof to dry

Oh yes.... lets not forget that Solar Power is the catalyst that gives a person darker skin (suntan) and lighter hair (mine actually gets both lighter & redder).
