What are some specific case studies where independent thinkers do things on their own...?

I need a specific case study where an independent thinker invents something and they are critized for it. If you know alot of them, tell me them ALL!

Edison, Telsa, Ford, the Wright brothers...but you say 'case study', sounds like you need documentation, like the early patents from Einstein.

“do things on their own” you say, that sounds like a commune, making a turkey sandwich from scratch. As in starting by planting the wheat to later be ground to flour and baked to bread.

Galileo was called a heretic by the Catholic Church for his astronomical theories, and was eventually put to death for them.
