What are some suggestions on making a low ceiling look higher.?

avoid dark colors and low squatty furniture, furniture that has slender vertical design makes the eyes go up and down

flushmount ceiling fixtures or ceiling fans help too

a great painting trick is keep the room's color light, and paint the ceiling to match. Then you don't have an abrupt change when you look up.

If there is crown moulding, baseboards, window trim, etc. Paint it all white. A dark crown moulding really brings the height down.

and do not allow anyone over 6' to enter, preferably dump all your freinds for short people 5' or under :)

Have a contractor install a vaulted ceiling. Could be expensive but will get what your looking for.

Makes total sense, Vertical stripes on the wall, paint or wall paper; the darker the walls, with a white ceilin, helps also. Use only ceiling hugger light fixtures if you have to have them. A floor lamp that points upwards. Keep your art work at eye level. I'm sure there is more. Good luck, hope this helps a little
