  2. Take a mosquito net, boots, repellent for mosquito, purifying pills for water, flash ligth, log sleeve shirts, suntan lotion, hut, dried food, can food, matches, battery, short wave radio,

  3. Even though I've never been there, and probably will never go there, here are some basic tips: Learn where you can find friendly Indian settlements; the residents there can help you to survive in the jungle.  Also, be able to make a fire without matches, flints or any other easy-to-use fire implements.  Take these things with you, but eventually they run out, so learn to do without them.  Also, never drink water directly from streams, no matter how clear they look, as they can harbour deadly micro-organisms such as cholera, E. coli, Salmonella and Giardia (be wary of the latter). Take your shirt (if you can), pile some soil into it, and drain the water through it.  The water can be filtered with the shirt alone, but the soil helps to trap bacteria.  When that's done, I recommend boiling the water strongly for at least 10 minutes to kill the micro-organisms in the water.  Food and medicine is everywhere in the Amazon, but it is hard to know what is safe and what isn't if you're not an expert, so seek out an expert or obtain a guide on plants in the Amazon, and stay away from brightly coloured animals, as the colours can signify that they're toxic.  Keep away from snakes, if you're not knowledgable on snakes, do not sleep on the forest floor as army ants, scorpions, centipedes, snakes and other animals can attack you overnight, build a shelter quickly as it rains almost everyday in the Amazon, look for termite nests, as the smoke from them can repel mosquitoes, and beware of the cats.  The margay and ocelot are similar in appearance and character to household cats; they're harmless.  The jaguar, puma (mountain lion) and black leopard (panther) do not usually hunt down humans, but in recent years due to loss of habitat, these cats have become great threats, so avoid them at all costs!
