  1. Better for what?

  2. if i'm reading this right... you're asking, what are the pros and cons between a windows PC and a Macintosh.

The question has become a bit trickier.

It used to be... Mac was for professional people...who leaned towards arts.  Needed high end, or stable high powered functionality for graphics, media or whatnot.

These days not so much.  Although Macs tend to still be favored by people who's work is working with digital images, or creating from within the computer.

The biggest Con... or bad thing against Mac is... that a drastically higher percentage (like 90% i'd say...without really knowing exactly) of software is written, designed and released for PC.  because windows is on so many more computers.

That has changed also.  Macs can now run many programs windows can.  Many games of office software is developed or "ported" over to mac.

And although it's still true... that many things are first made for PC  ...it's usually a question of when, not if.  it'll be made for Mac.

and Mac now... is really good at actually running windows.  So if there's some program that you have to use... you can put windows on a Mac and run anything a PC can.

One thing going for a PC and windows is that it is so prevalent.  It being on most computers means, any digital camera, printer, scanner... or whatever.  will more than likely work on windows.  So it's more for people who don't really care about their computer... people that want as little thinking as possible.

And for people... who just do basic things.  A PC with windows is their best bet for that.

That being said.  Windows... is generally considered a slow, buggy, unsafe and unstable operating system.

Some of that very same "everywhere" on "every computer" goodness that makes windows so popular... is the very same clutter that bogs it down, and leaves it open to viruses, and other undesirable bugs.

Macs are generally more expensive.  and any part, or building one... you pretty much have to go through apple.  And while apple is very forward thinking and innovative in it's designs and concepts for software... it's still got a pretty tight lock on component development

PCs you can build yourself...a lot cheaper, and easier than i'd imagine you could for a Mac.

PC prices continue to drop...  and you can choose from a wide range of brands, or companies that make computers... who provide warranty and service, or special features... that you could conceivably price or quality compare.   Macs... you get from apple.

Macs... tend to be "sleeker" or have a more refined aesthetic.  PCs have traditionally been bland, and boxy.  ...metal boxes.  Custom PC builders go crazy with led lights, see through cases and all sorts of things but at their most basic.  A Mac would probably win the beauty contest.

Some people argue that owning a Mac... is sort of a rebelling against the control of Microsoft and the horrible nature of it's software or business practices.  ...People foster this "macintosh user attitude"  which i've never really understood.  one company's marketing gimmick and another's evil empire.

    ...so in conclusion.

PC  ...there's more of 'em.  So it's more comforting.

PC is probably cheaper.  and there are more options

PC probably has more software, or get software sooner.

PC is just running windows.  the machine itself isn't controlled by macintosh.

Mac and it's OS is more stable and easily argued as better

    Mac is more stylish...

Mac can run anything a PC can run...with a bit of computer savvy

    Mac is probably more expensive.

Mac ... some people seem to think.  isn't a faceless bland nothing.  it's a machine you can bond with.

...with any computer. the basic question you need to ask is.  what do you want to do with it?  and how much do you want to spend.

if you want games, with killer graphics, and awesome sound, and killer speed.... a PC is probably better for you.

if you need high end graphics or prof grade software for a specific arts-ish industry... mac might be the better bet

but if all you want is to do email... search the web... maybe type a letter or some basic office stuff.   go price shopping.  considering cost, looks/aesthetics and or... the reality of choosing ...either the most popular operating system.  or going for the... little bit different OS  that Mac uses... which sets you apart.

Both Windows and Mac are easy to learn.  So either one doesn't mean you can't always try another.  Try and find someone who has a Mac.  see what it's like.  Go to a mac store... if one's in your area.  something like that.

It's sort of relative ...so i'd not say one is better than the other.  you basically split the difference between... mass appeal. with slightly crappier coding.  for hipster aesthetic and better core OS at a 10% premium on price.

    hope that helps.

ps:    there's also entirely different operating systems.  Linux being the most prevalent.  that are usually completely
