I was surprised that sugar was vegan.

Are there any other "normal" things to worry about?

  1. I've noticed that alot of people think pasta is vegan but it isn't.

    It is made with eggs.

  2. Soy cheese, some breads & crackers, many wines/beers/liquors, Mini Wheats.

Non-organic sugar is NOT vegan - it's filtered through bone-char.  Organic sugar processed with plant-derived ingredients is vegan.

  3. but ya no..most chocolate contains milk solids and **sugar** so thts somthing else to worry about besides gelatin.

  4. Hmm.. well many people do not know that gelantin is made from boiled animal bones and hooves, etc..  That means no coated tylenol, gel caps or like medicines!  Not to mention the many other common products that contain gelatin.

  5. Many if not most mainstream candies like jelly babies, redskins and snakes contain gelatin. Therefore vegans must be very careful to read the ingredients on the packaging.

Last time I went grocery shopping I noted that at least 95% of the candies contain gelatin. Thankfully ordinary chocolate does not.

Also most cookies and chips contain the unnecessary ingredient palm oil which is passed off as vegetable oil on packaging. Although vegans can eat it, the method of extraction is against most vegan's ethical beliefs. The extraction of palm oil for food and bio fuel is cause for one of the biggest environmental disasters of this century.

EDIT: When I mentioned chocolate I meant REAL chocolate ie. dark.

Plenty of pasta is NOT made with egg.
