Question:

What are some things that cause anemia?

Last week I my doctor ordered some blood work to check my hormones and things. Well, today when I went back for the results, she told me that I am anemic. I can not remember if she said I was severely anemic but she did say she is concerned about it so she ordered another in-depth blood test. Now, I have been told that women have a better chance of becoming anemic than men because we have menstrual cycles. However, I have not even had a period since June, and no, I am not pregnant bcs they tested me for that also. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanx!

  1. Anemia is caused by a low amount of iron in the blood.  Try eating more red meat.  If you're a vegetarian, you can even take iron pills to supplement your iron intake.

  2. being hot and then goin to a cold place all of a sudden.

  3. Not eating enough foods that contain  iron.

  4. cheap beer!

  5. hi

in same situ as you, i had two periods close together and now not had one for ages, felt a bit c**p, so they did some test same thing with the iron. I was give iron (ferros sulphate) tablets but they make me feel so ill in stomcahe, a lack of iron and vit B12 (pernecious anemia, prob what other blood test for)) can cause it there are over 5 differnet types though apperntly.

eat more green veg etc, hope you recover soon would appreciate if you kept me posted

  6. Anemia occurs when your blood doesn't have enough hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. A common cause of anemia is not having enough iron. (Your body needs iron to make hemoglobin.)

Lack of iron in the diet. This is mostly a problem for children and young women. Children who drink a lot of milk and don't eat iron-rich foods and young women who follow "fad" diets may be at risk for iron deficiency. This is a common reason for iron deficiency anemia in adults. Heavy periods may cause anemia. Blood loss can also be caused by internal bleeding, usually in the digestive tract. A stomach ulcer, ulcerative colitis, cancer, or taking aspirin or similar medicine for a long time can cause bleeding in your stomach or intestines. That's why it's important to find the reason for a low iron level.

  7. If you don't get enough iron in your diet you may become anemic.

  8. Here are some causes of anemia:

Not eating a well-balanced diet which includes greens and meat.

Blood loss: excessive bleeding such as internal hemorrhages or abnormal menstrual bleeding

Chronic illness secondary to refractory anemia: inflammatory GI/GU diseases, malignancies (cancer), arthritis, kidney or liver failure, and acute and chronic infections

Cancer therapy: surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy

Infiltration (replacement) of bone marrow with cancer

Hemolysis: Breakdown or destruction of red blood cells

Decreased red cell production due to low levels of erythropoietin (a hormone produced by the kidney {90%} and liver {10%}) which promotes red blood cell production

Anemia is treated with iron supplements.

  9. not having enough iron in your body. So eat foods that have loads of iron like red meat and vegetables!

  10. i think you need more iron in your body. i think you can take pills for that from the drugstore or eat certain foods like...cereal or something. also usually skinny people are anemic.

  11. There are three main reasons for aenemia: blood loss, iron deficiency or haemolytic aenemia.  Blood loss, obviously, you lose a significant amount of blood and your body can't produce enough red blood cells quickly to compensate.  Haemolytic aenemia usually occurs from another problem like sickle cell - the red blood cells your body produces have a shorted life span than the average person.  Usually if you're a teenager or young woman it's the simplest reason - iron deficiency.

Best way to solve this is to increase your iron intake - red meats, dark green leafy veg (like spinach), iron supplements.  Also, Vitamin C helps iron absorption so drink OJ etc when eating your spinach!

  12. Low iron.  I had it when I was young.  I was tired all the time pale as a ghost and weighed next to nothing. He put me on iron pills and they gave me a stomach ache so I just started to eat things with iron in them and took a regular multi-vitamin that had some iron in it.  I felt and looked so much better after that.

  13. Take full blood profile test.It might be a sign of other illness.Your health provider will advice you what to do.Self medication is not good.

There are different type of anemia and causes.

  14. chances are you don't  have enough iron in your diet try eating fried liver gross i know but its really high in iron and so is broccoli.
