  1. Monterrey isn´t precisely a turist town, there are some activities to do, though... more than 4 million people live here.

You can go clubbing at night at Barrio Antiguo.  There are some museums

The museum of contemporary art (marco) and metropolitan museum (across the street), museum of mexican history (4 blocks downtown from the others).

You can go rock climbing at la huasteca or hiking at Chipinque.

Eat cabrito at El Rey del Cabrito (quite an experience) or a barba-q at La carretera nacional.

Go to the movies, a mall, shopping at La del Valle.

If you just want to look at people go to Calzada Madero (at downtown area).

If you want to go to the caves and see geological formations go to Grutas de García, if you want to see petroglyphs in the desert go to Potrerillo, if you want to see animals like camels and elephants go to Bioparque Estrella (worth the visit).

What do you want to do?

  3. Oh_cielos is right. Those are the things to do. Complementing:

Tours: It's not common to find tours in Monterrey. There's a sort of Big Bus in downtown Monterrey in the form of an old cable car. It goes around the main buildings and streets of downtown, but honestly it's not very good. Generally the tours that are offered in Monterrey are to get out of the city: Cancun, Europe, Canada, NYC, etc. ; )

Sightseeing: Now, there's a lot to do here for that, especially because of the natural surroundings. Bring your hiking boots, binoculars, camera and all your gear.

-Go to Chipinque, and climb up through the forest and get amazing views of the city. It's also great place to observe local and migrating birds.

-La Huasteca has the most bizarre cliffs formations, and is great to wander around and take pics.

-La cola de caballo is a small but nice waterfall, also ideal to take pictures.

-Another place is El Obispado. This is a museum on top of a hill, with a big Mexican flag waving on top of it. The museum is not that great but it is another great spot t watch the city, both during the day and the night.

-When walking in the Macroplaza in Downtown (which is a huge square), you can get great landscapes with the surrounding hills and some of the most important buildings in the city. It's a good place for taking pictures.

-Calzada Madero and Avenida Juárez gathers most of the typical stores and markets of the city. So it's a good place to take pictures of "traditional Monterrey" with its people.

-Parque Fundidora: It's a big place with trees, museums and other things also very good for pictures. It used to be a factory, so you can have contrasting pictures of arquitecture and again great view of the hills around the city.

Fun activities: Almost all the hype occurs around clubbing and going to concerts. Check in www.ticketmaster.com.mx or www.superboletos.com for programmed events. Barrio Antiguo is the main place for clubbing. All sorts of places in it.

Hope this was helpful. Hope you enjoy the city.
