Question:

What are some things to keep my mind off of smoking?

I just quit smoking Tuesday...I went from a pack a day to nothing. No nicorette gum, no patch, no inhaler. Yay me. We're buying a house so I can't afford it anymore lol.

I was just wondering what I could do to keep me busy and my mind off smoking. I am already walking at night, chewing gum, "smoking" a pen cap and straws...and eating dum dum suckers.

Any suggestions or words of encouragement are welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

    --if u smoke 1 a day for a year, you have 0.5m² of tar inside u.

    --theres cooler ways to die =)))


  2. When I went cold turkey and felt the urge, I would stop whatever I was doing, then get up and get a cold glass of water... savor its purity and think about how it is cleansing you and helping wash away the toxins in your system (like the nicotine causing your craving.)  

  3. Go you! I love seeing people give up smoking, it's so unhealthy! My mum has tried to give up loads of times, but she always gets back on them =(

    She said when she gives up the best distractions were chewing gum and sucking lollies, so you're pretty much on the right track! there's alot of will power involved so just keep going!! good luck =)

  4. i read somewhere that if you associate a smell with your cravings, that eventually you can use the smell of that item to get over them.  like, if you're having a carving, smell something like a rose (or somethese else thats distinctive - maybe citrus?), and keep doing that every time you crave a cigarette.  eventually just smelling the item will get rid of the craving...

    good luck. i quit cold turkey too.  

  5. just try to preoccupy urself as much as possible, get urself to do many things at once it usually helps..

    or at least find sumthing that like smoking but not exactly sorry but i got no ideas for ya that u haven't tried out.

  8. you start walking is great now you need to join a gym that can offer you information about an exercise program just for you and start,if you have the oportunity to hire a personal trainer that would better. remember if  you stop smoking you can not drink sodas or coffe because they trigger smoking habits.
