  1. just try really hard and stay focused and don't get discouraged.... coaches like dedication

  2. Before Try-outs:

-Practice 1 hour each day. If you over-practice it won't be good.

-Get a good meal before tryouts

-Wear your most comfortable clothing (nothing new)

-Drink a bottle of Gatorade before and water during tryouts

    Coach Tips:

-Always say "yes ma'am and sir"

-Look the Coaches in the eye

    -FOLLOW DIRECTION! This is huge!

    Skills:

-Make sure to call the ball even if it's obvious

    -Don't hesitate

-It's ok to be a little bit of a "ball hog"

-Stick to the basics you know. If you see another girl doing a different approach-don't attempt it, just perform how you were taught

-Be a team player-don't criticize others

-Be relaxed-don't be all jumpy and nervous or squeal with your friends. You should have a relaxed, focused attitude.

Hope this helps and good luck!!

  3. Steps tobe remember....

1.Starting service might be lower arm or upper arm(The ball should go to the oppentent team with in the first shot wheather it is lower arm or upper arm)

    2. the oppenent team can hold the ball for 3 times bouncing within the team itself and they move the ball to your team

3.if the pts is take they should rotate within the team.

[i don't know wheather you are asking ordinary volley ball or beach volley ball]

  4. don't pretend you know what you are doing. Listen to the coach when they show you how to hold your hands when passing. It will hurt your forearms at first, but soon you'll get over it. The flatter the surface where you pass the ball, the better. Don't worry about setting and spiking at first. Having great passing skills are very underrated.

  5. Make sure you practice every day up to try-outs

    Do:

    *pass with a friend

*set to a wall 50 times

*serve in your yard or @ a local park for 10 mins

    At tryouts make sure you:

    *Thank the coach

*beleive in yourself because you can do it!!

    *hussle super hard

*call the ball and comunicate really loud (louder then you think)

    *cheer every one on

    *be yourself and have fun!!

I know you can do it!!

This is what I did and I made it on the A team for select indoor volley ball.  It is a blast!

Hope this helped and you can do it,

    Live the volley ball gal

  6. i would suggest just practice everything youve learned so far for this summer.

about an hour a day will help.

practice hard it wont be easy.

  7. Hi.  Here are some things that I could think of:

    - Be a team player.  NEVER one ball it over.  By saying one ball, I mean like: Once the ball makes it over the net (serve receive), someone should hit the ball.  Hopefully NOT the setter.  The first person to hit it should pass it to the setter.  The setter will set it, and a hitter will hit it (spike it) over the net.

    - The ball can only be hit a maximum of 3 times before going over the net.  If you hit it more, it's their point.

    - If the ball goes out of bounds, but you touch it, it's their point.

    - Don't act like you know things you don't know.  If you have a question, ask!!!

    - Be nice.  Be supportive.  Call the balls.  Say MINE! or I GOT! or something like that if you are going to hit the ball!  But remember, once you call a ball, IT'S YOURS!  The team will get really mad if someone calls it, but doesn't hit it.

    - The ball should NEVER touch the floor.  If no one calls the ball, GO FOR IT!

    - Remember to turn out.  Turning out means like if the ball is going to the right, and you can't hit it because you're too far away or your position is bad to hit it, but someone else will have a better angle on it, you move to the left and look at them.  But make sure you do it FAR in advance so they have time to set their position.  Stay out of their way but  be ready to cover them.

    - To pass/bump a ball, square up!  Legs spread apart, knees bent - DO NOT rest your hands on your thighs.  Have them out, but not in the position to pass yet.  Just have them out READY to pass.

    - Know your skills and your weaknesses.

    - Stay out of the setter's way.

    - Spike approach! I know it as LEFT, TOGETHER, JUMP, HIT! I've heard it as STEP, STEP, JUMP/HIT though.  When jumping to hit it, your arms should be coming up.  Kind of hard to explain.  Make it kind of like if you're coming out of the water I guess..

    - Work hard for every drill.  No slacking off, but don't kill yourself either.

Well that's all I can think of right now..Good luck!

  8. that if you dont catch the ball your out.

  9. the drills u do in try out depends on your coaches. for example, in my school, we are a very competitive skool too, and our try out takes usually 3 or 4 practices and we do the basic stuff like bump set spike, but my old coach, he choose his players by how long they've played, how strong they are and what there attitude is like. coz u can always train an inexperience person with no skill, but u cant tame a person with great skills andhave attitude problems..

anyways, back to ur question..there are three main basic skills u need in volleyball. Bump, Set, Spike. so it is most likely, they will test u on that.

u need to know how to bump, set, and spike.

bump: using the area from ur wris to almost ur elbow. (never use ur hand, just arms), remeber, knees bend, be as low as possible. arm straight, dont bend ur elbow, lock ur elbow.

set: using the tips of your fingers, and ONLY the tips of ur fingers, put ur hand up over ur head, lightly bend ur elbows. Make your hands create a shape of antlers above your head. If u look up, there would be a "triangular" shape above ur head, like a "window" so u can c the ball. use ur finger tips to absorb the energy of the ball, and push it hard up. Make ur finger strong and firm, (becareful, u can jam ur finger sometimes if u dont do it correctly, and believe me, it hurts)

spiking: for spiking, u use the palm of ur hands. keep ur hands firm and strong. all fingers close together, dont spread ur fingers coz then u would have less power and can get hurt. when spiking, swing ur arms foward, do not swing it across ur body. hit the ball at 1 oclock. (the position on the clock, when the arrow point at 1 oclock, it is at a certain angle)

also, during try outs, try to listen, dont space off and do what ur told. dont let the coach repeat,. they will get annoyed. keep ur attitude positive and dont be rude and annoying, coaches wont choose u.

    hope i help! xx ♥

  10. make sure you have a good attitude and keep trying because my freind didnt do that and she didnt make it!!! And try not to goof of that much.

  11. Coaches look for in a player:

    1) Nice controlled bump and set

    2) A killer over hand serve

    3) Be able to dig and dive

    4) Team work, Bump, Set, Hit technique

    5) Backwards set is a big plus!

If you really want to make the team next year, I would look around your city for some volleyball clubs and join all that you can. They really help with the basics and conditioning and stuff. Most of the time, they are run by your highschool coach, so you can get the feeling of her and she can see how good you are!
