  1. Well since its a skyline its gonna be hotrodded by the previous owner. Make sure all the modifications are legal you can get in some pretty deep trouble with them cause they usually have illegal mods on them. Make sure it has good clutch good tranny for the car. Check the undercarriage to see if its been hit alot on the ground.

  2. well just think. they are aimed at heavy footed p platers and asians who would have most probably drifted them, added novelty exhausts and been in accidents, and covered the damage with cheap parts. make sure you get full documentation and take somebody who knows what to look for in a second hand car with you. good luck

above is a thread from the free Worldwide Skyline owners forum. It is a thread on what to look for when looking at a Skyline.

As said find out what work has been done and whom has done the work.

Overall a Skyline is a great car and a looked after version will see you right and if all mods are done well then there should be no problems.

The good thing about the Skyline range and what Nissan wanted you to do is tune the engine so don't worry if it has had engine work done, and thrashing these cars you must really be punishing one as these engines love power etc My Skyline hates going speed limits and to be honest although i do it is a real struggle to keep them there, they have been called speed ticket lovers and after owning 2 i now know why.

Check that all belts have been done if its at that age if not reduce the buying price myself had mine done and was around £250 parts and around £180 labour cost.

Also check for regular oil changes there may not be a service record book as iam guessing the car is an import,so check owner has been done regular oil changes and with decent oil only and not normal run in garage oil,Fuel wise if its a turbo version your looking at find out which fuel they have been using as these need a higher octane fuel due to the fuel rating they are made for in Japan being around 100ron,if they have been running a low octane fuel below a super unleaded version at least has the ecu been set-up for that.Unless its a non -turbo no matter what is said ask any owner, Use a high fuel with higher rating.

  4. If you have a friend who is a mechanic take them with you, skylines are notorious for being absolutely thrashed. If its a P-plate owner be cautious. Ask if it's been in any accidents, had parts replaced. If it's Turbo ask about that i.e. is it certified installed, is it a home job etc.? You don't want a home job. If the guy is serious he (or she for that matter) should have engineers certificates or at least receipts from when the mechanics did things on it. Check how many of mod's are legal too, the last thing you want is to buy it, pull out of the driveway and be defected for 100% tint or 22" rims. It's what you are prepared to put up with really. If it doesn't feel right, keep looking. Esp if you want to put the money in to do it up nice. It's worth waiting. If you just want a thrasher though, go for it.

Also if the guys name is Phil, don't bother. That car has been in about 6 acco's.

  5. get a mechanic to check it over.  they are reliable cars but as everyone else said it could have been treated badly and had accidents and dodgey mods done.
