  1. You are coasting and that is illegal. Don't get caught doing that. You don't have control of your car. Check your tire pressure, tune up your car, walk to the corner store, start off easy from a traffic light, drive the speed limit, stay home at night.

  2. Answering ?s on Y/A

  3. Ive tried to not use the car so much

  4. Be careful doing that. Especially if you have an automatic. I used to do that with my first car and dropped it into reverse a couple of times.

I've actually started to drive a little slower on highways. Not a lot but maybe 5mph. I also don't do a lot of shopping on my days off. And if I need something at the grocery store, I pick it up on my way home from work.

  5. Me? I'm sitting here in front of my computer instead of driving around wasting gas.

Seriously folks; driving down a hill in neutral may not be saving all that much gas. It depends on your fuel system. If you stay in gear while going down hill the computer will shut off the fuel to the engine and give you engine braking, thus saving on brake linings and pads.

Every time you stop and start again it takes more gas than if you can time it so as you come up to the traffic light it will be green. This is one good reason not to make full stops at stop signs. Unfortunately, I still had to pay the fine.

About 45 miles per hour is the ideal speed for most vehicles. Any slower and the transmission will probably be in a lower gear, thus wasting gas. Any faster, and the wind resistance will eat into the mileage. I kept driving 45 on the interstate and some drunk rear-ended me. Fortunately, my typing finger is still good. When the insurance money comes in I'm buying the biggest, meanest SUV that I can afford.

  6. I decided not to go on any long driving this year.

  7. ride a bicycle.

    s***w OPEC!

  8. I commute by bicycle 16 miles a day.  I don't need to drive to the gym.  I've never felt better.

    Combine errands on the weekends.

One day a week:  Take a driving "sabbath".

Reduce consumption of consumer goods - don't need it?  Don't buy it.  Remember it takes gas to get stuff places.

    Buy local if possible.

Hey it's a start - I wish everyone could experience the bicycle commute - it rocks, but I understand I live in a unique part of the U.S.

  9. I shut off my engine when im stuck in traffic, I've also started using cruise control during city driving i there isent much traffic.

  10. I've reduced the # of girlfriends I visit, and NOW require some of them to drive to MY house to get service.

(just kidding around here folks, for those of you who seem to take everything so seriously)

When you get to the bottom of that big hill, you're going to have to use the brakes more than if you left the car in gear, so the money you save on gas will go for new brakes.

  11. Same thing I've always done - stay home.
