  1. cook them food from their country

  2. I have lived as a foreign student in the UK for three years, and I've been an exchange student for a short time in the USA. This is what I would recommend because it worked with me:

    1. Treat them like a part of the family. Try to be as open as possible and at the same time completely respect the privacy of your guest.

    2. Ask a lot about his or her home. Ask them to cook their favourite dish, for example. Do some research about the town or country and ask things that really interest you.

    3. Show him or her as much of your place as possible, according to the interests of your guest (where do you hang out, do certain sports, buy music, eat, meet with friends etc.)

    4. Give your guest some time on his or her own. Try to figure out when your guest is just to shy to take part in something or to ask for something and when the guests actually doesn't want anything but be left alone. It's probably good to find somethings your guest can do alone.

    5. Invite other exchange students he or she might know. Accept that you might have to cling with a new gang for a short time.

    6. Always be yourself.

    Hope this helps.

  3. learn how to cook them food from their homeland learn how they live in the homeland and make your place more like it

  4. Maybe you can find some people in your community who are from their country...If you are from a large city, there are usually clubs that international women and men belong to. This will help them to feel a sense of belonging....

If not, maybe you can try to make a typical dish from their country. This might remind them of home....

  5. One of my friends was an exchange student- and acoording to her, the best way to make them feel welcome are little random acts of kindness. Like inviting them to sit by you at lunch with your friends, talking to them in the halls, etc.

    Good luck!  =)

  6. invite them to ur house... make them food from the country they came from... or u might know someone from the same countrey the exchange student came from and u could introduce them to each other... and they may speak the same language fluentley

  7. be a friend make them feel wanted ! and not like their a lone. the way I look at it. it's like haven to move and going to a whole new school in the middle of the year think how you feel and mainely if you may be a stand out know what i mean. it's okay when your out of school for the summer and then you go back but everyoney is starten back the same time as you. so I would say treat them nice give them a warm welcome and you want to be their frined and help them if they need help.

  8. Try to talk to them and take them out.

  9. Not stare at them like an old pervert =)..... Try the language barrier first. teach them some slang so they'll feel cool and like they fit in. The more of the language they understand, the more likely they are feel comfortable and relaxed around us.

  10. do things that will make them more comfortable. for example hang some pics of their home country, or cook foods that they are used to.

most people who go to another country miss food the most. At least i did

  11. Include them! Talk to them, invite them to do something, just make them feel welcome! Ask them things, show them that you show interest in their culture, country, etc...

  12. Be interested with there culture. Ask them something, like how you would say your name in their language, how to write your name, what foods they eat, etc. Then, do the same for them with our culture.

    Good luck!

  13. do things with ure class form whre he his from, maybe like a culture kind of thing, learn about it, it will make him look like a star =)

help him feel better bout it and then he will look super smart=more friends

  14. you could take them around town and show them how to fit in, but don't make them conform. Possibly invite friends from their previous country or city or whatever to a party. And you must be nice.

  15. try to learn some of their language so that they dont have to try as hard to fit in with you

and maybe find out what he used to eat and etc. to make his life easier until he gets ajusted

  16. When I was studying abroad, there were things that I really missed.  Things you can do to help your exchange student feel more at home are:

    a.  Prepare food from their country for them.

    b.  Allow them to cook a dinner for you with food from their country.

    c.  Take them to a restaurant that serves food from their country.

    d.  Have them show you a movie from their country.

    e.  Keep them busy, but not too busy.

    f.  Smile and be willing to be flexible.

    g.  Help the student meet friends and find fun things to do.

    h.  Allow them to call home as often as they need.  These days there are many ways to call other countries for just pennies (skype, etc.).

  17. Sometimes people from their own country are sent to the same state for exchange student programs.  See if you can locate some people from his/her country near you and arrange a "party".

    Cook their native food.

Show them how to download tv from their country.

Give them space to relax, but make them feel needed by giving them some responsibility around the house.

Find out what is popular in their country in music or reading and accomodate that material for him/her to use and you learn about it too, so you can have stuff to talk about.

Be genuinely interested and interesting with your exchange student.

  18. I was an exchange student and it was difficult but I had the best host family in the world who really made everything quite natural.  Here's my best advice based on my experience:

Include them in everything.  Even grocery shopping, cooking etc.  They are coming to learn YOUR culture, and if you pander to them with imitations of their culture it's kind of annoying.  Instead show them how your culture does things...then allow them to teach you how their culture does the same thing.  This shows that while they are learning, you are learning as well and it's enriching for both parties.

Immerse them in your way of life.  Don't change anything, but let the exchange student become a part of your life as it is.

Don't let them become isolated, lonely or depressed.  If you have kids who play sports, allow the exchange student to become involved.  If you work out at the gym, take the student with you....etc.

Don't project that they are separate from your family...instead absorb them into your family unit.

    Hope this helps!

    *cheers*

  19. depends on the country. try eating the same food and letting them wear their native clothes, etc. just be careful not to immitate their country in a way they'd feel insulted

  20. treat them more like your family. because the last thing they want is to feel like they dont belong here. dont think about making it like there home because the reason they are here is to not feel athome and see what america is like.

  21. honestly give them space!

    Treat them well!

Set thr rules like you would for any oher!

  22. just be friendly and make them feel welcome.
