  1. ok to help you out, the best thing to be prepared for tryouts is to be in good shape.  If you literally know nothing about the sport, the coaches will at least see that you have great potential and will hopefully give you a spot.

having a good push up (decent form), a good mile time, and a good attitude will all help you make a good impression.

as for the field hockey bit

the ball cannot hit your feet, or else the other team gets the ball.

you cannot obstruct a play with your stick or body, or the other team gets the ball.

there are to half circles at each end of the fields.  if a foul is made on the defensive team in the circle, the offensive is allowed a corner play.

a corner play is a way to score a goal (wont go into much detail here, each school has different plays)

If the offensive fouls in the circle the defense has a free hit outside the circle.

If the goalie steps on the ball, or a player stops a goal with their body, an offender will be allowed a stroke, which is like a penalty shot. its an open shot on goal with the goalie.

each half is 35 minutes i believe.

if the ball goes out of bounds, the team that that didnt foul has a free hit on the sideline.

If the ball is hit at a dangerous height in the air, the opposing team gets a free hit.

that has some field hockey skills if you need to watch.

I reccomend practicing on a fast surface, not grass, maybe turf or a tennis court will make you learn skills faster than on grass.

    I hope that helps!
