  1. The Libero is someone that is the ultimate DS(defensive specialist). It must be the best defensive player in a team. Basically, you need to be a good solid passer and should have good reflexes for digging hard hits and diving for dinks. Since most coaches use their Libero for their middles and have them play middle back, they must be fast and can go end line to end line in no time because they cover a large area.

If you want to stand out as a great libero, you can do it with lightning speed, extra hustle, and going for everything but never giving up on anything.

Spectacular digging and diving would also make you look good but out of everything, consistent passing is the most important. Coaches would definitely look at passing more than anything else. Work your passing to the perfection.

Do the best what you do the most!

  2. Get your a$$ on the floor.  lol

Keep it low at all times, and always be like the main source of energy on the team.  Always moving.

    ALWAYS!

  3. ALwaYs stay and think on your feet. You must keep close eye on the ball and who is hitting it, also what direction the ball is going. Remember you are the last change of defense on the court. It also great to know it you can learn how is hit the ball as well, not always passing the ball. You have to get into the action of spiking the ball as well.

  4. be quick and a good passer!

ACTUALLY the Gordon the rules for USAV have changed giving the libero pemission to attack (hit) the ball

but only in a certain plain and behind the 10 foot line

(i have the rule book in my room and my bff is a libreo)

  5. Yay libero's. (:

    Always hustle to the ball.

    Don't be afraid to dive.

Listen very closely to your coach.

Remeber to snap your wrist when your hitting from the backrow.

Build upper arm and leg strength.

Watch the lines. Libero's can't hit from the front row.

You need to be good at passing and defense.

Make sure to cover all the holes on the court where nobody is.

    (:

  6. Okay well I play libero for both my high school team and for club volleyball and I think it's important that you can read the hitters shoulders, and watch the hitters warm up to see if they hit at an angle or on the line. AND watch out for lefty's because their hits tend to go in different places. You have to make sure you watch the block to see if your blockers leave a hole for the ball to come through. As a libero you have to have an attitude like "nothing hits the floor" because a lot of times your team and coach expects you to be the leader of the back row. Just make sure you help encourage the other players, because a libero is like a captain for the back row, stay low and good luck! =]

  7. Pass well, fill the whole in the block, and don't be afraid to dive for balls. the most important thing, though, is to be really really vocal. talk alot, and take control of everyhing anywhere near you

  8. whats a libero???

  9. It does not matter where the Libero is, front row or back row.  The Libero can not attack the ball if the ball is completely above the height of the net.  The Libero is designed as a defensive specialist.  Not as an offensive weapon.  The back row specialist may attack the ball from the back row only.  The Libero may not attack the ball from anywhere.

Practice reading the hitters.  During warm ups, watch the other hitters.  See if you can pick up anything on their swing that will give away where they are going to hit.

Practice digging during your teams hitting drills.  The more touches you get during hard hitting drills will help you during matches.  If you have hitters and setters that stay late to work on hitting, you should stay late as well.

  10. Know that points are lost in the off-season. Be very quick and do a lot of lateral (side-to-side) and plyometric drills to get there. During the season you must be excellent at passing serve-receive, you should take up so much court that the opposing players will be forced to serve to the weaker passers on your team, which will subsequently cause some service errors.

On defense never hide behind the block. If you can't see the ball you are in the wrong place, if there is no block don't be afraid to run in and take the ball off your body, if it's a playable up for your teammates then you did your job. Also a dink should never land in front of you. As a libero it is assumed that you are the best defender/passer on your team so BE AGGRESSIVE. Freeballs are called that for a reason, it should be a perfect pass, you should always be intense and get that ball at a good height right to your setter but especially a freeball.

Learn the rules, depending on where you play you aren't allowed to set the ball in front of it (only bump set) in front of the 10 ft/3 m line. Attack the balls bellow the height of the net otherwise push everything or bump everything over.

Hope this helps, I was never El Lib but I was a DS on a State Championship team and am currently training at The University of Hawaii.

  11. Make sure your a great defensive player. Dive and get that ball off the floor. Liberos are usually the last resort if nobody else in the team reacts fast enough, so you must be alert at all times.

  12. Like Gordon said, learn to read hitters. That is your biggest key - knowing where the hitters will go (even on a tip) before they do. Liberos have to keep a "go on every ball until I get it or I'm called off" approach at all times. On a free ball, unless it is right at someone else's head, the libero should go get it. Volleyball is a very kinetic sport, meaning there is always motion, so you must be quick all over the court. Watch other players, and even your team, hit every chance you get so you can see all the possible ways a ball can come over the net at you. A quick and focused Libero can and will change the outcome of a game - nothing fires up your team and frustrates the other guys like a libero that can dig everything up!
