  1. One tip on how to hold the ball to make it spin like a drop punt (end over end) is to balance the ball on your head with both hands comfortably either side and then take the ball off your head and down ready for kicking without moving your hands at all. You will get comfortable with a position for holding the ball with more practice but this is a good way to start.

  2. have the ball with the laces up

place your hands either side of the laces, with ball on a slight angle pointing down

then as your going to kick the footy guide the ball down towards your foot with the same hand as the foot you are going to kick with i.e left foot/left hand

all the while keeping your eye on the ball and your head over the ball.

you want the ball to spin in a backwards motion

  3. If you want to kick for accuracy, one thing you may want to try is to practice dropping the ball, and practice holding the ball steady while running.

When running for a kick, it is very easy for the ball to shake around, you need to hold it steady while approaching for a kick.  If you drop the ball anyway other than straight down, your foot will miss making clean contact, and the ball will go off on its own way.

  4. Watch the ball right to the foot and follow through.

If you're trying to kick distance, most AFL players (specifically midfielders) like to run in a little ark, to get the full momentum.

    But mostly, practise!
